Theme: Sports!

I think I’ll tackle the sports theme now. Since more and more husbands 2B are getting involved in the planning, the themes have started to reflect that This month I am attending a golf themed wedding! Instead of toothpicks stabbing the appetizers, they are mini golf tees with the date imprinted on them. How cute!

The colours are green and beige, I have to assume beige because you wear khaki’s to golf, and green for the grass? Anyways, the bride is wearing a beautiful airy summer dress and the groom, khakis and a white dress shirt. Hmm I wonder if they will use this instead of a cake?

A lot of weddings are using their teams colours as their wedding colours, and incorporating little references to their teams. Or a big reference to the game they love! I hope this wasn’t the wedding cake and was just a groom’s cake!
I like this inspiration board for baseball. The cleats are just too cute! Instead of a signing book, you could have a jersey of your favourite player and have all your guests sign it! Much more unique than the ever popular picture frame!
Sports theme leaves a lot to offer for a unique touch. Your team logo accessories, and “stadium food” for appetizers! There are so many thoughts running through my head! For centrepieces you could have a vase filled with chocolates or cookies of a shape related to your sports. It doubles as favours! You could be married on a field or court or green (again depending on sport).

Ideas to incorporate:

§ Custom Hockey pucks/baseballs/footballs/golf balls etc

§ A hockey stick/baseball bat for each member of wedding party, and walking under the sticks, like when soldiers do under the swords or guns.

§ Sport theme song to walk in to the ceremony, or during signing at the ceremony

§ Have your Dj or dinner servers where Ref jerseys

§ Trophies for centrepieces

§ Sport cookies for favours

Most idea can be transferred from one sport to another. For an outdoor casual wedding, you can add bounce houses for the kid, have mini putt, a baseball throwing competition, lawn bowling etc.

As manly as a sports wedding is, you can still make it classy. Still have your flowers and everything you want, just incorporate a few extra sports touches. Most of your guests will think it’s a fun alternative to the traditional sit down and eat for 5 hours than dance and go home reception.

Have you done a sports theme wedding? Which sport, and how did you incorporate your theme and have your dream wedding?

Theme: Damask

Theme 2: Damask

I have fallen for this Damask trend! At first, I thought, what IS that?! No longer can I deny that I love it! The damask in black can be paired with any colour and looks very classy. In particular, I like the black damask and white, or the black damask and a green. I think the green looks unique but still offers a classy feel to it.
Damask can be overdone though. I think all the stationary should match, and even the favour tags. However, if your menu is done in damask, and you have a damask tablecloth or dark tablecloth, and you have damask napkins, it gets to be an eyesore. Pick a few large damask items, or a several subtle ones.
I think small unique touches are the way to go. Yes, we all love the damask aisle runner, and damask Chinese take out baskets, but how about damask shoes? I love these little girls booties. A damask hair comb? Damask ties? There are so many little details that people forget, and these are the ones that will make you wedding look unique.

I enjoy looking at weddingbycolor.com not only can you get an idea based on colour, but sometimes people are selling things and you can get an awesome deal! It’s also a really good idea to see what and how some people have created some new interesting things.

When I think (black & white) damask, I think glamorous! Long tight fitting gown, birdcage veil, and red lips! When I think of the pink & black damask, I think trendy hip, shorter wedding gown, no veil, pink accessories, and defiantly a candy buffet! Ok maybe I’m stereotyping due to colour, but it’s what I envision!
Easy ways to incorporate Damask?

§ Invitations (any stationary really)
§ Cake
§ Linens
§ Ring pillow           (See below for a DIY)
§ Card box              (See below for a DIY)
§ Clothing accessories
§ Favours

What Damask ideas did you incorporate into your Damask wedding? What was your accent color(s)?

Theme: Two Hearts

I find this theme very simple yet elegant. There are so many little touches you can add in very subtly, or not if that’s your thing! I like the Two hearts entwined together forever, it reminds me of an “old love”, very romantic.

This theme can easily flow from beginning (invitations or save the dates) right through to the ceremony and reception and the end (the dreaded Thank-you cards!).

There are many styles of invites you can do that use the double heart, whether you’re a DIY bride, or ordering from a website. In my opinion, if your creative enough to do so, than DIY. However, if you get frustrated easily, have little time on your hands, are a complete perfectionist or not artistic what so ever, I recommend having them done.

I have to say, I have become obsessed with another blogger. His or Her (ok I admit, I skim the pictures, but don’t read enough to know man or woman! Sorry) work is FANTASTIC! Beautiful and custom work for the looks of it, and the latest entry says a bride from a TV show will be using programs from this company! To me, anything that you would want to air on TV must be good! (Picture displayed is the program shown in the blog under the TV Bride, so I assume this is her!)

Custom invitations, matchbooks, favour tags etc. are a way of making sure you theme is recognized. Sometimes it is slightly more costly, but if you don’t have the artistic talent to patience to do it, its better than buying something from a catalogue. Especially if your one of “those” brides, at least this way you get to say the word custom!

A cheap DIY is to buy a stamp with the 2 hearts on it, and than buy your colour napkins and stamp the hearts on them. This can be quite cute, and don’t need to be perfect since they will be used to clean dirty mouths!

(Sorry for crappy picture)

Ways to incorporate two hearts themes;

§ Invitations

§ Reading at the ceremony of the meaning of the two ring intertwined

§ Cake server set

§ Toasting flutes

§ Napkins (custom with your names and dates on them)
§ Monogram

§ Unity candle

§ Candle holder

§ Picture frame

§ Cake topper

§ Buffet bags (candy, snacks etc.)

This is one of the more elegant themes and I quite enjoy it! How many of you have had a two hearts themed wedding? Any ideas you would like to share?

Choosing a Theme

The first thing to do is make a list of themes you and your fiancè may want to have. Keep in mind colors you may want may clash with a theme you want. Example, your thinking of the all popular black and pink wedding, and a fall theme. Pink and black leaves maybe? No.

Once you find a theme the both of you agree with its time to decide what aspects of the theme you want to incorporate. There is a thing as too much. You don't want to overload and make it look just plain tacky.

In the past summer I have been to more than a few weddings, and miraculously have not come across the same theme twice (in 2010 that is). Although you cannot prevent your theme being used in the future, and it's mostly likely been used in the past, you can still make it unique.

Popular themes;

The seasons (Fall, Spring, Winter)
Tiffany Blue - Once a color, now a theme in itself
Beach
Butterfly
Fairytale
Disney
Damask
Two hearts
Historical times ( 1920's to 1950's)

Recently I have noticed that grooms are becoming more involved and the themes reflect this;

Nautical
Golf
Sports teams (NHL, MLB, NFL)
Outdoors (Camouflauge, hunting, fishing)

And than of course they're are just color themes. All things can be done with class, some things just need more consideration, and some subtly!

Good luck choosing your theme if you haven't yet! For those who do have a theme, what was/is it, and why did you pick it?
