Theme: Sports!

I think I’ll tackle the sports theme now. Since more and more husbands 2B are getting involved in the planning, the themes have started to reflect that This month I am attending a golf themed wedding! Instead of toothpicks stabbing the appetizers, they are mini golf tees with the date imprinted on them. How cute!

The colours are green and beige, I have to assume beige because you wear khaki’s to golf, and green for the grass? Anyways, the bride is wearing a beautiful airy summer dress and the groom, khakis and a white dress shirt. Hmm I wonder if they will use this instead of a cake?

A lot of weddings are using their teams colours as their wedding colours, and incorporating little references to their teams. Or a big reference to the game they love! I hope this wasn’t the wedding cake and was just a groom’s cake!
I like this inspiration board for baseball. The cleats are just too cute! Instead of a signing book, you could have a jersey of your favourite player and have all your guests sign it! Much more unique than the ever popular picture frame!
Sports theme leaves a lot to offer for a unique touch. Your team logo accessories, and “stadium food” for appetizers! There are so many thoughts running through my head! For centrepieces you could have a vase filled with chocolates or cookies of a shape related to your sports. It doubles as favours! You could be married on a field or court or green (again depending on sport).

Ideas to incorporate:

§ Custom Hockey pucks/baseballs/footballs/golf balls etc

§ A hockey stick/baseball bat for each member of wedding party, and walking under the sticks, like when soldiers do under the swords or guns.

§ Sport theme song to walk in to the ceremony, or during signing at the ceremony

§ Have your Dj or dinner servers where Ref jerseys

§ Trophies for centrepieces

§ Sport cookies for favours

Most idea can be transferred from one sport to another. For an outdoor casual wedding, you can add bounce houses for the kid, have mini putt, a baseball throwing competition, lawn bowling etc.

As manly as a sports wedding is, you can still make it classy. Still have your flowers and everything you want, just incorporate a few extra sports touches. Most of your guests will think it’s a fun alternative to the traditional sit down and eat for 5 hours than dance and go home reception.

Have you done a sports theme wedding? Which sport, and how did you incorporate your theme and have your dream wedding?
